SEARCH AI
Help & FAQ
Last updated 6 August 2026
Search AI puts a conversational shopping assistant on your storefront. Shoppers describe what they're after in their own words and get back real products, collections, and editorial content from your catalog.
Setting up
Three steps, once:
- Index your catalog. Open the app and click Index catalog. This reads your products, collections, blog posts, and pages and builds the search index. It takes under a minute on a small catalog and longer on a large one.
- Turn on the chat bar. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds and enable Search AI, then save. The bar appears at the bottom of every page.
- Optional: add the full-page experience. Create a page in your admin, then in the theme editor add the Search AI — chat page section to it.
Does it stay up to date on its own?
Products and collections re-index automatically whenever you change them. Blog articles and pages update on a full re-index, so run Index catalog again after publishing editorial content you want the assistant to know about.
Can it recommend something you don't sell?
No. The assistant is only allowed to describe results that came back from your catalog, and every product card it shows is a live item with a real price and link. If it can't find a match it says so rather than inventing one.
Why does it find things a keyword search wouldn't?
Shoppers describe occasions and feelings; catalogs are written in nouns. The assistant searches on meaning, so "a gift for my sister who just had a baby" finds keepsake and personalised pieces without the word "sister" appearing anywhere in your catalog. It combines that with ordinary filters — price, stock, product type, tags — so results stay realistic.
This is why your tags and collection names matter more than they look: that's usually where occasion language lives, and it's what makes "graduation gift" return anything at all.
Plans and conversations
Every plan includes every feature. They differ only in how many shopper conversations are included each month, because that's the only thing that changes what the app costs to run.
| Plan | Price | Conversations a month |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | 500 |
| Growth | $99 | 1,200 |
| Plus | $299 | 5,000 |
A conversation is one shopper session, however many messages they send in it. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You can see your usage against your cap on the Plans tab at any time.
What data does it store?
Your catalog (public product data), and chat transcripts keyed to a random token in the shopper's browser. No customer name, email address, or IP address is ever recorded. If you turn on revenue attribution it also links orders to the chat session that preceded them.
Transcripts and usage events are deleted automatically after a period you set, 90 days by default. Full detail is in the privacy policy and the data processing addendum.
How does revenue attribution decide what counts?
An order counts if the shopper used the chat before buying — with no time limit — and has used it again since the last order already credited to them. So someone who chats today and buys in two months still counts, while someone who bought last week and comes back without chatting doesn't.
It deliberately undercounts. A shopper who reads the chat, closes it, and buys from a collection page still counts, because they used the chat. You can turn attribution off entirely in Settings.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| The chat bar doesn't appear | Check the app embed is enabled in Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds, and that the chat bar is switched on in the app's Settings. |
| It says it can't find anything | Run Index catalog. If the catalog is indexed, the assistant genuinely found no match — check the Analytics tab's no-result list to see what shoppers are asking for. |
| Colors don't match what I set | Settings publish to your theme within a few seconds. Hard-refresh the storefront. If they still don't apply, save Settings once more. |
| New blog posts aren't showing up | Blog articles and pages only re-index on a full sync. Click Index catalog. |
| I hit my conversation cap | The assistant stops responding until the month rolls over or you upgrade on the Plans tab. |
Getting help
Email hi@wip.fyi. Include your store domain and, if it's about a specific conversation, roughly when it happened — the Chat logs tab in the app makes it easy to find.
